There are around 10,000 surplus graduates in the state service after appointments were made in Kurunegala, Matara and Ratnapura districts. The ministry is planning to appoint them to their nearest districts according to requirements, the minister said.

Seneviratne was addressing a ceremony held to distribute permanent appointment letters among graduates who completed their one year training period in state service.

"Experience in dealing with the public is of top most priority in the government service. New recruits should be honest and serve anywhere they are appointed. They should develop their skills and serve the public in both rural and urban areas. This will help them to become skillful government officers," the minister said.

Government officers are a group who have earned public respect since the past. They have a major responsibility to serve the public and solve their issues in a peaceful manner. These officers should know how to serve the public in a correct manner and protect the dignity of the government service, Minister Seneviratne said.

Ratnapura District Provincial Council Member Salitha Karunaratne, Public Administration and Home Affairs Ministry Additional Secretary Jagath Chandrasiri and Ratnapura District Secretary Sunil Kannangara were also present.
