Army invests Rs 350 mn in three hotels

The Sri Lanka Army will open its modern Cabana type star class hotel complex bordering the popular Yala National Sanctuary shortly. This latest jungle cum beach resort at Yala, would be branded as “Laya Safari’ and will include 20 luxurious cabanas with a panoramic view of the park. Built by the Engineer Service Regiment, the second stage of the project would include another 30 rooms.

This was revealed at the grand re-branding launch of the Army's eco-friendly holiday resorts as “Laya” Hotel chain at Waters Edge Hotel Battaramulla last week.

The Chief Guest at the event, Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya said that the Army embarked on this timely project to assist the rapidly growing demand in the hospitality industry in the country.

Out of the three existing hotels the famous Wadduwa Resort was re-branded as ‘ Laya Beach” and would offer 35 standard and super deluxe rooms overlooking the scenic blue ocean.

The Kukuleganga Holiday Resort was re-branded as “Laya Leisure” with its exceptional single and family type well furnished villas nestled in a natural landscape. The guests would also get the opportunity for out door activities and thrilling adventure sports.

All three hotels would comprise of executive suites, luxurious rooms, villas, spacious function halls, swimming pools, gymnasiums and sports facilities.

Directorate of Welfare will be responsible for the execution of these new projects. Plans are underway to add another two hotels to the chain in the near future in Pasikuda and Kuchchaveli. These hotels will give employment opportunities to the community living in that area.

Director Army Welfare, Brigadier Kumudu Perera said all three resorts of high standards, managed by the Army are manned by professionals in the hospitality industry to ensure the best standards and quality service. The profits of all three hotels are used for the welfare of Army soldiers.
