Kim Kardashian and Kanye West Have A Couples' Moment With Nelly And Ashanti (PHOTO)

Saturday, October 27, 2012

By now it's no surprise that we're a little obsessed with Kim Kardashian and Kanye West (aka Kimye, duh). We have basically stalked Kimye while blackout had a PDA-Jay-Z has done in America Festival, starred in VMA promotional spots, zip-lined through the jungle, and curled, so one might think that an ol regular 'photo of the couple posing in a charity event would not be as exciting. But nope! Just the sight of these two in the same frame that makes us giddy.

Kimye last night attended the annual Angel Ball star in New York, and in the middle of watching the event artists Natalie Cole, Smokey Robinson, Nelly and DJ Cassidy, Kim and Kanye found time to pose with another couple of power: Nelly and Ashanti. And there is absolutely no doubt - Kim, Kanye, Ashanti, Nelly and definitely make a beautiful couple of power quartet (squared power couple?), But I can not lie! Nothing in this world will never be compared to the time Kim and Kanye hung out with Jay-Z Beyoncé +, also known as the King and Queen of absolute perfection. But hey, Ashanti and Nelly (Nelshanti?) Should be proud of that comes in at a very respectable second place! In fact, I wonder if maybe a group of mini-golf outing would be a nice double date activity? Eh, prolly you choose to use only the private jet and have a spa weekend for couples in Las Vegas or something

Obama comes out swinging in second debate

Friday, October 26, 2012

Democrats had nervously awaited the debate, fearing another limp display from Obama could provoke a slide to defeat :

US: An intense Barack Obama bounced off the ropes and accused Mitt Romney of untruths Tuesday in a furious opening to his bid to blunt his foe's momentum surge in their second presidential debate.

Minutes into the debate, Republican Romney and Democrat Obama stood toe-to-toe a few feet apart, angrily accusing one another of distorting each others policies and future plans on oil production and energy.

“Governor Romney says he has a five-point plan.

He doesn't have a five-point plan. He has a one-point plan, and that is to make sure that folks at the top play by a different set of rules,” Obama blasted.

In a high energy start to the face-off in Long Island, New York, Obama displayed more energy and passion than he showed in the whole of his limp 90 minute performance two weeks ago, which sent his poll numbers tumbling.

Romney, a 65-year-old former governor of Massachusetts, took the first question of the town-hall style debate, about the jobs crisis, and bemoaned the plight of ordinary Americans who he said had been “crushed over the last four years.”

“I know what it takes to create good jobs and to make sure you have the opportunity you deserve,” Romney said. Obama, 51, was quick off his stool in response, looking 20-year-old questioner Jeremy Epstein straight in the eye, fixing him with an intense stare as he promised to quicken the US economic recovery.

He rapped Romney for opposing the auto industry bailout which he engineered and which he said had saved a million jobs, and brushed off his Republican rival's denials. “What Governor Romney said just isn't true. He wanted to make them into bankruptcy without providing them any way to stay open,” Obama said. Obama's team had promised a “strong” and “passionate” performance by the president after his lifeless showing in the first debate in Denver, revived Romney's campaign, which many Republicans thought was doomed to defeat.

Democrats were severely rattled by Obama's no show, so his first mission Tuesday was to reboot enthusiasm among his core supporters, with early voting already under way in a clutch of states ahead of election day on November 6. The town hall setting, which had each candidate seated at a stool on a red carpet, and free to roam around, tested the body language of the two candidates, and capacity to empathize with the anxieties of everyday Americans.

Beyonce signals Super Bowl halftime gig

US: Pop diva Beyonce all but confirmed Tuesday that she will be performing the much-watched halftime show at the Super Bowl in New Orleans next year.

She appeared in a photograph on her Tumblr page wearing bright red lipstick and “Feb 3 2013” -- the date of the American football classic -- stenciled in white over eye black on her cheekbones. “Countdown to touchdown,” read the accompanying headline. Pending a formal announcement, the ESPN television sports network said on its website that Beyonce, 31, would be the youngest halftime act in nearly a decade.

Super Bowl organizers have played it safe since Janet Jackson's infamous “wardrobe malfunction” while performing with Justin Timberlake in Houston in 2004 -- the year Beyonce opened the game by singing the national anthem.

This year's halftime artist was Madonna, 53, whose guest star MIA got tongues wagging by flipping a middle finger on live television.

The show got higher ratings than the game itself.

Lanka enters space era with satellite launch

November 22, would be a red-letter day for Sri Lanka when the country moves to a new era by launching its first satellite. As exclusively highlighted by ‘Daily News Business,’ this historic venture would be initiated by ‘The SupremeSAT’ headed by R M Manivannan. The launch would also make Sri Lanka the 45th nation to own a satellite and make ‘SupremeSAT’ the first private sector company in the region to own a satellite.

Manivannan said that the agreement in this regard was signed last Tuesday and the satellite would be launched from Beijing at 9.30 pm and would be positioned over Sri Lanka in just 7 minutes. The total investment for the project is estimated at US $ 360 million which also included the construction of a satellite Content Management Station and a Space Academy in Kandy which is now in progress.

He said that the funds would be raised by his company and they hope to earn profits after eight years. The company would generate income through providing media space not only to local companies but other countries in the region as well.

He disclosed that they were originally planning to launch the satellite in 2015 but were able to advance it to November, mainly due the favorable investment climate in Sri Lanka.

“I am very glad that this venture coincides with the vision of the President to make Sri Lanka a Knowledge Hub and must thank the government for fully supporting this project,” he said. He also emphasizes that no government funding was used for this venture.

The company has entered into an exclusive partnership agreement with China's state owned China Great Wall Industry Corporation (CGWIC) for the design, manufacturing and launching of the satellite and also to secure marketing facilities of many other satellites owned and operated by CGWIC and the China Satellites Communications Corporation.

He said that the satellite currently stationed in Beijing would carry flags of both Sri Lanka and China and his next objective is to build a satellite which will only carry the Sri Lankan flag.

“The space industry is a very important inter-growth part, of a country's industrial system. Sri Lanka is at a very critical and historical stage with regard to the development of the national economy and strengthening the civil society.”

The proposed Space Academy in Kandy will consist of a state-of- the-art Satellite Ground Station which will provide on the job training to Sri Lankans who will start to control the already co-branded satellites of SupremeSAT/Chinasatcom.

Obama, Romney bunker down as crucial debate looms

Sunday, October 21, 2012

US: A different Barack Obama will show up at the next debate with Mitt Romney, aides said Sunday, after the president held a post-mortem of his leaden debut clash with his Republican foe.

Obama bunkered down at a luxury Virginia golf resort prepping for Tuesday’s encounter with Romney, which has taken on high significance since the president’s first debate performance sent his poll numbers tumbling.

Senior Obama aide David Axelrod said Obama had studied video of the first duel in Denver earlier this month, in which the president appeared disengaged, unenthusiastic and seemed loath to even look directly at Romney.

“Nobody is a harsher critic than the president is of himself,” Axelrod told “Fox News Sunday.” “I think he’s going to make some adjustments on Tuesday,” the adviser said, though joining other aides in declining to offer details on Obama’s strategy for the town hall style debate, the middle clash of three encounters between the candidates.

“I think he’s going to be aggressive in making the case for his view of where we should go as a country,” Axelrod said, adding that Obama would challenge Romney’s shifting political positions, unlike in the first debate.

Obama emerged briefly from his hideaway to visit campaign workers at a local office in Virginia, a swing state he won in 2008, and where he and Romney are effectively tied ahead of the November 6 election.

“It is going great,” Obama said, when asked by a reporter how his debate prep was coming along.

With his debate team around him, Obama was staging mock showdowns with Senator John Kerry playing the role of Romney, ahead of the second debate at Hofstra University in New York state.

Former White House aide Anita Dunn was playing CNN anchor Candy Crowley, who will moderate the debate, a campaign official said.

Romney, after worshiping at a Mormon church Sunday, also got in some debate practice, with aides confident he can put in another strong display, after the first head-to-head confrontation turned around his once trailing campaign.

The Republican, a former governor of Massachusetts, is honing his debate technique with Ohio Senator Rob Portman standing in for the president.

“I think President Obama is going to come out swinging. He’s going to have to compensate for a poor first debate,” Portman told ABC television’s “This Week.” With the candidates off the trail, it was left to high-profile supporters to hurl campaign grenades on the Sunday talkshow circuit.

Republicans stepped up their assault on Obama over the raid on the US consulate in Benghazi on September 11 that killed four Americans, including US ambassador to Libya Chris Stevens.

Critics say the administration, which initially called the incident was a “spontaneous” attack but now admits it was an organized terror strike, is trying to deflect blame from Obama ahead of the November 6 election. “Either they are misleading the American people or (are) incredibly incompetent,” Republican Senator Lindsey Graham said on CBS’s “Face the Nation” program.

The attack came after a week in which a State Department official said a request for beefed up security at US posts in Libya was denied.

The White House says Obama was never informed about the appeal for help. But Republicans charge that after a Democratic convention that lauded Obama over the US raid that killed Osama bin Laden, his administration is unwilling to admit that Al-Qaeda is still a serious threat.

“When something goes bad, they deny, they deceive and they delay. And the truth is we’re not safer,” said Graham.

Democratic lawmaker Elijah Cummings accused Romney of using the death of Stevens as a “political football.”

Romney also came under fire, in a possible preview of the debate, over exactly how he would pay for his across-the-board 20 percent tax cut without further inflating the deficit or cutting deductions for middle class families.

Romney adviser Ed Gillespie said the Republican candidate did not want to discuss the arithmetic around the tax cut to avoid locking congressional Democrats and Republicans into entrenched positions.

But the Obama team says Romney will have no choice but to do away with some cherished deductions, such as those for mortgage interest or charitable contributions to make the plan add up, meaning more pain for the middle class.

Cambio designs software for Europe hospitals

Cambio Healthcare Systems in Sri Lanka brings much deserved acclaim to the country, by being responsible for designing and developing Enterprise Healthcare Solutions for some of the leading hospitals in Europe.

When asked about Cambio’s key brand, Sanjeewa Senarath who heads the Software Quality Assurance Division at Cambio Healthcare Systems in Sri Lanka explained, that Cambio’s main product is Cambio COSMIC, a patient-centered electronic health record system, that offers solutions within all healthcare sectors for large health organizations and provides a high degree of patient safety and security to both healthcare personnel and patients.

It is currently licensed to over 95,000 users in General and University hospitals, primary care clinics and specialist units in Sweden, Denmark, and the United Kingdom.”

Offering a model which will run simultaneously with existing systems, Cambio provides operational support to increase efficiencies of hospitals by integrating with the existing systems while offering the flexibility of customization to suite individual customer demands.

Senarath also touched on the adequacy and accuracy of this product by stating that the company has created a mechanism for planned and process oriented care, by identifying specific care requirements, defining aims, planning and documenting the result of the treatments as well as evaluating treatments in relation to aims.

                                                                                                                                                                               Sanjeewa Senarath

Information in the care plan is divided into four categories, pre-admission, status, care plan and final summery.

He added that “Thanks to this categorization , it is easy to gain an overview of a patient’s care requirements and plan treatment accordingly in line with treatments already carried out.” Hospital staff can insert any information of a patient and this information can be seen and accessed by all relevant staff.

It also has a ‘Report Sheet’, a functionality that can be used for patients being cared for in wards.

“Here the hospital staff can document all expected and unexpected events, measures and results,” Senarath said. Senarath also pointed out that, Cambio COSMIC has a special component that supports emergency care , where patients in acute or life threatening stages could be quickly registered.

It provides several advantages such as giving an in depth patient-overview that is automatically updated overtime, supports patient prioritization based on the condition of the patient and also look at the resource ability and monitor the current operational workload at the emergency unit.

This greatly assists and enables off-site care professionals to understand the needs of each patient and keep an eye on them, as well as offer the right care at the right time and also assists to have the right operative team to be booked in advance including, doctors, nurses and all other relevant staff members.

Each stage of the operation could also be monitored through this system.

He also shed light on the “COSMIC Theatre Management” which is a system that can support the entire theatre process.

It provides extensive support for waiting lists, scheduling, theatre records, anesthetic information, operation activities, operation live view and follow-up. In other words, it is a comprehensive support service for the entire theatre process for different aspects of care and for the personnel handling them, without compromising on the precision of the information such as, from the planning stage of the pre-operation to the real time progress of the actual operation and post operative care procedures.

Cambio COSMIC also has a system called ‘COSMIC Birth’ which is specially designed for anyone working in the Antenatal Clinic, Delivery and Maternity Departments. With ‘COSMIC Birth’, the hospital could monitor the mother throughout the entire pregnancy from the first visit to the antenatal clinic to the follow-up visit after the birth .

Sanjeewa also shared his thoughts on how the product could be useful in Sri Lanka “We have both state owned and private hospitals here and with the increase of the population and the number of patients along with the growing difficulty in providing significant care to individual patients, there is also an increasing amount of money that is spent on health services.

On top of all this, patients nowadays expect a higher quality and rapid service on what they receive and there is a huge amount of pressure on both the government and the owners of these privately owned health institutes and hospitals.

The policy of the present government is also aiming to increase the quality and quantity of services provided in the healthcare sector.

The type of systems that we provide would be a huge benefit to increase the productivity, quality, accuracy and transparency of the services provided to the community”, he concluded.

US envoy lauds SL’s development

Sri Lanka is developing rapidly after the end of the three decade conflict. The whole country is benefitted from the development programmes, US ambassador to Sri Lanka Michele J Sison said.

“All areas are developing rapidly after the end of terrorism. The government has given top priority for development,” she said.

The US ambassador expressed these sentiments when she met Environment Minister Anura Priyadharshana Yapa at the Environment Ministry.

Sison also discussed with the Environment Ministry Additional Secretaries on the future programmes to be implemented by the ministry concerning the environment.

The ambassador agreed to grant assistance for future projects of the Environment Ministry.

She said Sri Lanka has achieved sustainable development while the island has earned a prominent place in South Asian for conserving forests, reducing green house gas emissions and implementing programmes to protect the Ozone Layer.

“We hope to grant technical assistance and finance assistance to Sri Lanka for environment conservation and solid garbage management,” she said.
